Editor's Reflections | Autumn 2002
By: Carol R. Thiessen | October 31, 2002
I begin this note with a tribute to a gracious Christian gentleman who passed into God’s presence on June 20. I refer to Kenneth S. Kantzer, longtime dean and professor at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (Deerfield, IL), former editor of Christianity Today magazine, and an unashamed egalitarian.

A Church in God's Image
By: Dr. Mimi Haddad, President of CBE International | September 5, 2002
What makes Christians peculiar is our radical inclusion. We are nearer our brothers and sisters in Christ than we are to our own kin, culture or race. Newness in Christ works against the human impulse to exclude those culturally different from us. On this point CBE is clear.

When the Pews are Full of Porcupines
By: Joanne Nystrom Janssen | September 5, 2002
A church is like a group of cold porcupines, I once heard someone say: Each one needs the others’ heat to stay warm, but as they draw closer together, they run the risk of jabbing each other with their sharp quills. They are faced with a choice: freeze on their own, or forgive each other [...]

Editor's Reflections | Summer 2002
By: Carol R. Thiessen | July 31, 2002
You may have noticed that beginning in the Summer 2001 issue of Priscilla Papers a new logo appeared on this page, that of the Evangelical Press Association indicating our membership. In some ways, deciding to join this professional association of Christian publications was a bold step for the CBE board, aligning ourselves with well [...]

Embracing Today's New International Version
By: Dr. Mimi Haddad, President of CBE International | June 5, 2002
At CBE, we began the New Year by celebrating the release of Today’s New International Version of the Bible. The press did an excellent job of obtaining opinions from church leaders and scholars alike, and within a short time many seemed ready to consider the strengths of the TNIV. A glance at the history [...]

Editor's Reflections | Spring 2002
By: Carol R. Thiessen | April 30, 2002
Do you have a copy of the new Today’s New International Version translation? If so, you are already enjoying a familiar translation in updated, “gender accurate” form. But if you’ve heard contradictory statements about the veracity and value of this new work related to the familiar New International Version (NIV), you will welcome [...]

Considering 2001: Looking Back Before Moving Forward
By: Dr. Mimi Haddad, President of CBE International | March 5, 2002
The CBE community showed great courage and faithfulness in 2001! Despite the enormous challenges of a slowing economy, events of September 11 and an ambitious budget, every branch of the ministry grew. We attribute our massive success to God’s faithfulness, your partnership, a new strategic plan and the dedicated CBE staff. Let’s bask in our [...]

Editor's Note: Spring 2002
By: Joanne Nystrom Janssen | March 5, 2002
A father suddenly catches a glimpse of his daughter’s ministry gifts, gifts he was told women didn’t have. A mother, in tears, describes her vision of a different future for her daughters, one without restrictions and roles. And a parent grieves over the way young women are treated as less valuable, intelligent or [...]

Editor's Reflections | Winter 2002
By: Carol R. Thiessen | January 31, 2002
Individually, and taken together, these articles break new ground for many of us and provide new information about the role of women in the early years of the church. I hope you will find each of them as helpful as I did.

Celebration Empowers Women Across the Globe
By: Dr. Mimi Haddad, President of CBE International | December 6, 2001
Only one week after September 11, few were willing to board a plane. While most cancelled travel plans, three CBE staff members headed to Houston for the Global Celebration for Women. We offered a biblical basis for women’s Christian service to 10,000 women from 156 nations.
