In the past week there has been a diversity of articles posted on the internet that somehow address biblical equality. Here are just a few of them.
“If my Daughter Wants to be a Priest” by Shawn Smucker (The High Calling)
“Maybe Lucy will be a priest someday, I thought to myself, and this was an entirely new thought. I was shocked that it hadn’t been something I had considered before. In no other church that we’ve ever attended have I or my daughters had an example of what that calling looks like for a woman. They could have grown older and had a stirring to lead God’s people, but without Reverend Lauren, without a living embodiment of what that looks like, would they have known what to do about it? Would they have even recognized it for what it was?”
“’Brothers, We are not all Brothers’ – Jen Wilkins” by Michael Bird (Euangellion)
In this short post, Michael Bird responds to a phrase used by Jen Wilkins in her recent blog post on The Gospel Coalition’s website, “Brothers, we are not all brothers”.
Michael writes:
“I have to say that it personally irks me when a Christian speaker addresses a mixed congregation and addresses them as ‘brothers.’ It makes the women there, even if they are a minority, appear invisible, irrelevant, and unwanted. If you don’t believe me, try asking them! So remember: ‘Brothers, we are not all brothers.’”

The Bible tells us that God loved Jacob, but I wonder how those who promote a “masculine Christianity” feel about him? Read about Jacob and other men in the Bible who don’t fit the stereotypical “manly” mold in this post.
“The Curse of Genesis 3: A Lament” by Gail Wallace (The Junia Project)
In this article Gail looks at the uneven, unjust, and inconsistent ways the consequences of the Fall, given in Genesis 3, have been interpreted and applied – ways which seriously disadvantage women.
Tim writes, “When I graduated law school my mentor at the firm I worked at was a woman. When I got on the bench and had been a judge for a while, I mentored a woman who joined the court. Gender qualifications were meaningless both times.”
“I Need to Hear from Women” by Sarah Christine Schwartz (Sarah Christine Schwartz)
“I need a diversity of voices, because where we lack diversity, we miss out on the gifts God intends diversity to bring us. We miss out on the fullness of who God is, and how he is moving and speaking in the lives of people who are different than we are. I need to be taught by women to be reminded that I have a place here, too.”

This Sunday is Pentecost. It was on this day almost two thousand years ago that Peter stated,
“In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your youths will see visions, your seniors will dream dreams.
Even on my male servants and on my female servants
I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.” Acts 2:17-18
The Holy Spirit is the great energizer and the great equalizer.
