Unlike today, Christian theologians have, through the ages, used feminine metaphors for God without apology. For them, this language was not only biblical but theologically rich in communicating the immanence and transcendence of God. By avoiding this language do we minimize the depth of our understanding of God? This lecture will consider the nature of language, the metaphors used of God, and the wisdom of relying only on masculine metaphors for people.
