Christians working to end sex slavery recognize the crucial role churches have in reading Scripture without a male bias. Since the 1800s, Christians have challenged theological patriarchy as essential to their humanitarian work. This lecture will consider how the church developed a theology of abolition in concert with its humanitarian work and how theology has implications for Christian humanitarians today
