Can you Believe in Inerrancy and Equality?
By: Dan Gentry Kent | January 31, 2001
Inerrancy is a doctrinal position, a conviction regarding the nature of the Bible. A belief in the equality of male and female, on the other hand, is a matter of the interpretation of the Bible, hermeneutics: “The place of women in the Bible is an interpretive, hermeneutical question. It is not an inerrancy question.”

The Importance of Gender-Inclusive Language
By: Julia Alford, David Mustol | October 31, 2000
What language is most effective in communicating the true meaning of Scripture? It is the language of the people with whom we want to communicate. We are at a point today where traditional Bible translations, with their male-oriented language, seem to many to be outdated.

The Feminine Imagery of God in the Hebrew Bible
By: Joan P. Schaupp | October 31, 2000
There are profound metaphors of God as feminine in the Hebrew Old Testament. On occasion this poetic imagery is allegorized literally as female; most often the feminine appears in the Hebrew Bible in metaphor and allegory, as in Deuteronomy 32:18b where God, here named Eloah, gives birth to Israel in groaning and travail [...]

Biblical Women Weren’t Always Submissive
By: Joe Lunceford | October 31, 2000
I have presented women from both Old Testament and New who held the highest positions of authority that existed at the time they lived. There are many people, I believe, who will have more to answer for in the context of God’s judgment for the treatment of women in the church than just about [...]

By: Carol R. Thiessen | October 31, 2000
Women are enjoying the growing opportunities to succeed in business and the professional world, however the same is not true across the church spectrum. This issue may give you pause to ponder this conundrum.

The Family Isn’t Always the Answer
By: Evelyn Bence | July 31, 2000
I’d be the first to acknowledge the importance of strong family life, but I fear that by extolling the virtues of the traditional unit, the church alienates those who don’t have ready-made families.

One Woman’s View
By: Rosalie Beck, Carol R. Thiessen | July 31, 2000
A church historian discusses her perception of recent SBC actions. Priscilla Papers thought it would be helpful in this discussion of the Southern Baptist Convention and women to ask for her perspective on issues that are related to the recent changes to SBC faith statements.

Southern Baptists and Women in Ministry
By: William M. Tillman | July 31, 2000
The subject of Southern Baptists and women in ministry is complex. What follows is my opinion and interpretation of some of that complexity. Having been associated with this discussion for many years, I am cognizant of my subjectivity. My hope is that what I can add as an involved bystander will provide some clarity for [...]
