Keynote Panel Discussions

“Why is Gender Accuracy in Bible Translation Important?”

Throughout history, biblical texts related to women’s dignity and agency have been translated through a patriarchal lens. This panel of noted Bible scholars will expand on persistent challenges and paths forward in producing more gender-accurate translations of these texts.

Diphus Chemorion, Havilah Dharamraj, Boaz Johnson, Eunny Lee, Jeff Miller, Phil Payne, Caryn Reeder, Cynthia Westfall, Alice Yafeh-Deigh, moderated by Katie McEachern

“Exploring the Humanitarian Impacts of Theological Patriarchy”

According to the World Bank, the UN, and the Gates Foundation, the most important lever for advancing humanitarian goals is women’s equality. Yet Christian NGOs are often reluctant to advance women’s leadership because of male-headship teachings, poor biblical translations, and a tradition of theological patriarchy. This panel will explore the humanitarian impact of faith, gender equality, and humanitarian efforts worldwide.

Katherine Marshall, Mimi Haddad, and Prabu Deepan, moderated by Amy Reynolds.
