Video – Translation and the Samaritan Woman Presented with Jonatan Leopardi

From CBE’s 2025 Conference “Let Her Lead: The Biblical Basis for Women’s Leadership” in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Listeners will be introduced to the problem of biblical translation and some translations that are interpreted in ways that seem to discourage female leadership. We will move on to a moment in which cultural anthropology can shed light on certain aspects of both the period of writing and the interpretation of the biblical texts. With this foundation, we will proceed to read the text of the Samaritan woman as recognized by Eastern tradition: Hagia Fotini (Holy Light-Bearer), emphasizing her leadership and missionary role. We will close with a positive perspective, endorsing the essence of ministry that women carry out.
