I HAVE THIS DREAM………
of little children being free to explore their world without the voices telling them that ‘little boys do/don’t do this’ and ‘little girls do/don’t do that’
of little boys being free to enjoy crafts and quiet pursuits without being called ‘sissies’
of little girls being free to climb trees and play football without being told they are ‘tomboys’
of parents enjoying their children’s choice of toys instead of directing them to ‘gender appropriate’ playthings
of children being protected from voices which invade childlike innocence with thoughts of girlfriends and boyfriends even while in kindergarten
of school teachers encouraging their students to pursue their natural gifts and talents regardless of gender and the expectancies of others
of church youth groups preparing the young adults for a life of service to God whether single or married and being free to be themselves in that service
of churches allowing young people to take part in the meetings and see what spiritual gifts emerge in both girls and guys
of young men not having the burden of expectancy that one day they will have to provide for a wife and family
of husbands not having to learn how to be the spiritual leader of their home
of young women not having the burden of having to be beautiful in order to attract a potential husband and provider
of wives not having to learn how to be a submissive wife
of more male teachers for kids church, nursery and playgroups
of more men and boys in the church kitchen and on the cleaning roster
of more women in visible positions of leadership and direction in church affairs
of leadership teams being made up of women and men who are equipped by God for the task of maintenance, pastoral care, preaching or directing
of husbands and wives being best friends and enjoying being lovers, companions, workmates, and parents should God bless them with children
AND IT ALL STARTS FROM THE TIME A CHILD IS BORN
AND DRESSED IN PINK OR BLUE
