Five Reasons to Go to CBE’s LA Conference

The CBE Conference is almost here! And I get to attend for the first time! I’m so excited. Not only am I looking forward to being in California and spending time with my husband Tim (editor of Mutuality) at the conference, but I’m also really looking forward to connecting with other egalitarians. If you haven’t decided yet whether or not to come, it’s not too late! Here are five fabulous reasons for attending the CBE “Becoming New” Conference at the end of July, plus an awesome opportunity to win a free ticket at the end of the article.

1. Connect with other egalitarians.

Being a Christian egalitarian can be lonely at times. The CBE Conference is a great opportunity to build your support network of like-minded believers. Make new friends, meet egalitarian pastors and scholars, and connect with some of the CBE staff.

2. Equip yourself.

How do you argue for biblical equality with your complementarian friends and family? How do you actually live co-leadership in marriage? How do you make intergenerational justice work a priority? These and many more questions will be explored in workshops and plenary talks by renowned international justice advocates and egalitarian leaders such as Eugene Cho, Anne Zaki, Mimi Haddad, Ken Fong, tim+anne evans, Gail Wallace, and Mariam Youssef, among many others.

3. Find resources.

Christian bookstores are, sadly, often underresourced when it comes to books on egalitarian theology and practice. The CBE online bookstore makes up for that—and if you come to the conference, you can page through some of the top books and resources available and purchase them to take home. Many of the authors who wrote these books will be there too to sign your books and connect with you in person. Bonus: conference attendees can recieve up to 50% off of CBE memberships and subscriptions!

4. Go to Los Angeles!

Really, this is a great excuse for a California vacation. Book your flight to return home a few days after the conference ends and enjoy the sights in and around LA. You could go to the beach, take a road trip along the coast, or glory in the majesty of the Redwoods and Sequoias to the north of LA.

5. Show your support for CBE.

If you believe in the mission of CBE, “to promote biblical justice and community by educating Christians that the Bible calls women and men to share authority equally in service and leadership in the home, church, and world,” then come to this conference to join the movement. Better yet, bring a friend who’s interested in learning more or blog about your experience. The CBE Conference is a great place to start becoming an even better advocate for biblical gender equality in the home, church, and world.
