CBE International’s Bible Commentary List

This list is meant to provide a brief sampling of the rich literature of Bible commentaries written by evangelical scholars in the last few decades. CBE International focuses on books written for a broad church audience, but CBE sometimes includes larger volumes. CBE has not listed technical commentaries intended for scholars and advanced students; this has meant leaving off some excellent selections. All of the Bible commentaries listed here are friendly to an egalitarian perspective. In the same manner, CBE has not listed commentaries for every book of the Bible, but has limited itself to those which are most relevant to the debate about gender and race in the church.
