CBE’s president, Mimi Haddad, congratulates Kohlenberger after awarding him CBE’s 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award
With heavy hearts, we say goodbye to our dear friend, John Kohlenberger III, who passed away on September 29, 2015 after a long battle with cancer. Kohlenberger was a world-renowned scholar and long-time supporter of CBE.
Kohlenberger’s intellect was second to none. His crowning achievement, the NIV Exhaustive Concordance, was revolutionary in its precision and accuracy. In all, he published over sixty biblical reference books and study Bibles. It is no exaggeration to say that John Kohlenberger changed the way English speakers read and understand the Bible.
His devotion to gender equality was no less impressive. He served on CBE’s board of directors and board of reference, and he wrote prolifically for CBE, contributing to Priscilla Papers, Mutuality, and Arise. He was recognized by the Evangelical Press Association for his work in Priscilla Papers, and he received CBE’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011 in recognition of his advocacy.
We are sad to say goodbye, but are proud to have called John Kohlenberger a friend and colleague. We celebrate his legacy, as do all who were blessed to know him.
