Biblical Gender Equality: A Summary

In every corner of the world, religious teachings on gender and power have an enormous impact on human lives, especially those of girls and women. For this reason, Christians have a responsibility to accurately critique biblical teachings on gender. Standing on the biblical scholarship of evangelicals like A.J. Gordon, Catherine Booth, Fredrick Franson, Sojourner Truth, and Amanda Berry Smith, CBE International explores the view that males and females are created with equal dignity for the purpose of shared leadership (Genesis 1:26–28). CBE provides resources that equip all Christians to fan into flame the gifts within them (2 Timothy 1:6) regardless of gender.

This booklet summarizes the egalitarian position of Scripture—that Christians, both male and female, are equally called to exercise their God-given gifts with equal authority and equal responsibility in the church, home, and world.

Ideas Have Consequences

Ideas Have Consequences explores the connection between religious teachings and gender injustice. Patriarchy has too often been wrapped in religious clothing and named as a biblical ideal, granting divine justification for the abuse of women and girls. This journal exposes patriarchy as a misinterpretation of Scripture and offers a glimpse at the abuse it has enabled in the name of Christ. If Christians are to uproot injustice, they must teach the biblical view of the full equality of women and men in both value and function.
