Atracia Moorings is working on a master’s degree in Old Testament at Biola University in La Mirada, California. She also works full time at Cottonwood Church in Los Alamitos, California, as the Grow Director, where she teaches the Bible and develops resources to help the congregation grow in their relationship with God.
“As a woman entering ministry, I have sometimes found there are fewer examples of women who have walked this path before me. Rather than having a clearly defined road to follow, I have had to trust God to lead me one step at a time. This has required me to listen for his direction and have courage to pursue opportunities when I cannot see what the path ahead looks like. I am thankful for women in ministry who have encouraged and inspired me to be faithful to the gifts and calling God has given me.
Before entering ministry, I earned a degree in journalism from San Francisco State University and spent decades working in the field. Although I did not initially realize it, that experience prepared me for the ministry God would eventually call me into. I spent decades communicating truth through journalism, and God redirected that gift toward teaching Scripture.The AMMS Award is not only a financial provision; it is an encouragement to trust God’s faithfulness. At a time when I needed provision for my education, this scholarship arrived as a tangible reminder that God knows what I need and is faithful to provide in his timing. I am grateful for the opportunity to honor Alvera Mickelson’s legacy by pursuing theological education and investing in the lives of others through the faithful teaching of Scripture.”
