
Flavio Prestes III
Flavio Prestes III (ThD, Andrews University) serves as assistant professor of biblical studies at the Adventist University of São Paulo, editor of the theological journal Kerygma, and assistant to the general editor of the SDAIBC series. His scholarly interests include narrative analysis and the assessment of worldviews. He has done research and written on the books of Genesis, Daniel, Hosea, and Revelation. Flavio is married to archaeologist Carina Prestes.

Why Does Genesis 2 Emphasize Equality So Much? A Study on Structure and Rhetorical Design

When read in the Hebrew text, Genesis 2 emphasizes the equality of women at least three times. Why is the text so emphatic on equality? The reason may lie in the structure of the two creation stories. The emphasis on equality seems to be a deliberate strategy to counter the natural flow of the text and thus prevent the reader from supposing that the relationship between men and women should be asymmetric.
