August 03, 2018 - August 04, 2018
Helsinki, Finland | August 3-4, 2018 CBE International's 2018 conference theme was "Created for Partnership," and was hosted by RaTas (Christians for Equality), in partnership with CBE International. Why Finland? While Finland has a reputation as a world leader in gender equality, the story is different inside Finland's evangelical churches. A small but influential minority claiming to represent “true” biblical Christianity promotes male-only leadership and patriarchal gender roles in churches throughout the country. This is crippling the advancement of the gospel in this mostly secular country. In the words of Eeva Sallinen Simard, "Finland is one of the most gender-equal societies in the world, but I had the same experience with gender...

Join Dr. Mimi Haddad at the 2016 "Truth Be Told" international conference as she will be one of the plenary speakers to speak out against gender based violence and lecture on "Ideas Have Consequences: Justice Begins with a Consistent Reading of Scripture." The teachings and practices of Christian faith have significant implications for girls and women globally. As Plato said, ideas rule the world. Ideas have consequences, and religious ideas even more so, since they are said to represent God. What has been the impact of Christian teachings? Have they nurtured women's flourishing? This lecture will answer these questions by considering the three views the church has historically held regarding women's value, purpose, and equality, each supported with a particu...
