In this workship, Sarah Ago builds a foundation for anyone who is new to the idea of egalitarian marriage. She begins with God’s original design as described in Genesis 1 and 2 and how the fall in Genesis 3 changes the dynamic of how relationships are lived out. She then examines the redemption that the cross brings into the relationship between men and women, touching on some of the confusing passages in the New Testament. Finally, practical advice on decision-making is offered within the context of an egalitarian relationship.
While many Christians today believe women were created to be submissive to men, history tells another story. Created as strong rescue for man (Genesis 2:18), women have served the church as martyrs, missionaries, teachers and leaders revealing the gospel in places men feared to go. This workshop will consider the pioneering leadership of women on every continent, from the early church to the modern era.
This workshop explores how to grow a marriage relationship in which both parties have a voice and decisions are made jointly. We learn about relationships from our family of origin and then in marriage have a choice of what we will take from each of our family backgrounds.
What do Gen. 2:24-25 and Eph. 5: 21-33 have in common? When rightly understood, they both provide an almost formula-like description for a pleasurable, loving, faithful marriage of oneness. And both passages are built on equality and mutuality. Modern science teaches what the writers of Genesis and Ephesians could not have known.
This session will consider a whole Bible approach concerning women and leadership. Topics will include creation, redemption and service for women and men created in God’s image and recreated in the image of Christ.
It is good to bear in mind that traditions – whether Jewish or Christian – have not always stayed loyal to the biblical truth. Nowhere can this be seen more clearly than in the value and status of women throughout the centuries.
Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 7:4 constitute Scripture’s only mention of the common Greek word for “authority” (exousia) in clear reference to husbands and wives in marriage. This radical denouncement of either spouse insisting on personal “authority” over her or his own body in marital intimacy is a stunning reversal of the cultural norm of Paul’s day—as well as throughout the majority of church history. What does his bold statement mean in its biblical context, and what does it say about Christian mutuality in both marriage and singleness today?
