I endorse CBE because of the strong theological work they provide that teaches the equality of male and female in God’s creation. Proverbs 31:8 tells us to “Be a voice for those who have no voice; ensure justice for those being crushed” (NLT). Advocating on behalf of marginalized and vulnerable women to reduce violence, poverty, and exploitation seems like a never-ending goal. Indeed, without the second half of the verse there is no hope. In much of the world, social structures are built on patriarchal systems that are simply not fair if you are born a girl. Because many of those systems are entrenched in religious tradition, we depend on CBE’s voice that is a measured, consistent, thoroughly-researched response to call the church back to equality for male and female.
