Frequently Asked Questions

  • Does it cost anything to start a CBE chapter?

    • CBE International does not collect fees from local chapters, however, CBE does request that chapters reimburse CBE for shipping costs for complimentary resources that are sent to the chapter. As chapters organize events and reach out to their communities, they may need to raise funds or find sponsors to cover various expenses. Some examples of chapter expenses includes refreshments, hall rentals, speaker fees, etc.
  • What’s the difference between a CBE chapter and a member organization?

    • CBE's church and organization membership program is designed for churches seminaries, schools and other organizations committed to biblical gender equality. A membership provides publication subscriptions, books, opportunities to host CBE speakers, and discounted conference registrations to CBE member organizations.
    • Chapters are designed to bring together members of a local community to organize activities that advance the mission and values of CBE in a local area. Chapters obtain their organization status through CBE's Group Exemption, granted by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
  • What if I don’t know any other egalitarians in my area?

    • We can send an email with your contact information to other CBE supporters in your area in order to connect with you. If you still don’t find anyone, don’t give up. CBE will work with you to help you find others in your area.
  • I live outside of the United States. Can I still have a chapter?

    • CBE has supporters all over the world and these supporters create thriving chapters! We would love to help you start a chapter. Outside the United States (U.S.), chapters do not gain legal non-profit standing with the IRS. However, by applying for a chapter charter, non-U.S. chapters must meet the same governance, finance, and operating standards that U.S. chapters meet.
  • Can I start an incorporated CBE branch in my country?

    • CBE is not incorporated in any country outside of the United States. However, CBE has partnered with several like-minded organizations internationally, and some join CBE as member organizations. Although we work closely together and share the same core values and mission, our international partners may be required by their local government to register as non-profits—in which case they must also meet whatever legal requirements are necessary to maintain that status with their government. You are welcome to contact CBE about starting a partner organization in your country.
