"The Harvest is Plentiful, But the Workers are Few"

On March 24, 2014

Do you remember the stories of Jesus preaching in towns and villages and teaching in the synagogues? In healing the ill and in proclaiming good news, Christ was deeply moved by the crowds who were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. What was Jesus’ response to their need? He told us to pray that God would send out more workers, for "the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few!" (Matthew 9:37, NRSV).

We know of many workers, gifted by the Holy Spirit, holy and ready to serve in the harvest. What’s more, they recognize that they are called to the harvest. And yet, many are told “No, you may not serve in that way, because you are a woman.”

This is why I am writing to you.

CBE has an opportunity to influence thousands of seminary and college faculty at the Evangelical Theological Society this fall. Two prominent evangelicals are willing to read papers advancing the biblical foundations of gift-based (as opposed to gender-based) ministry. These leaders are:

David Claydon, Senior Advisor to the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization and Canon at St. Andrews Cathedral of Sydney, Australia

Richard Howell, President of the Evangelical Fellowship of India and Vice-Chair of the Evangelical Council on World Evangelism.

These leaders are not only biblically knowledgeable, they possess global prominence and are outspoken in their passion to release the gifts of women!

To make these lectures possible, however, we need your help. Please make a generous gift today, so that we can respond to Christ’s call to send out more workers to the fields, regardless of their gender! Thank you for helping to bring the whole Gospel to the whole world using the whole church!
