Christians for Biblical Equality Advances Biblical Basis for Gender Justice at Denver Conference

The promotion of a biblical basis for gender justice is drawing hundreds to Christians for Biblical Equality’s 10th international conference in Denver, August 10-12. The theme of this conference is “Seeking Justice and Loving Mercy: Gender and Equality in the Bible and our Culture.” Conference speakers are prominent scholars and Christian activists and will convene in Denver to offer theological and practical insights into the challenge of gender and justice.

Ron Sider, president and founder of Evangelicals for Social Action will be a panelist at the event. He has authored more than 22 books including Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger and The Scandal of the Evangelical Conscience. Sider has devoted his life to working against economic injustice and recently spoke out about the parallels between his work and his support for CBE. “Being passionate about overcoming economic and racial injustice is connected to being passionate about overcoming gender injustice,” he said.

In addition to Sider, other justice movement leaders Jo Anne Lyon (founder and president of World Hope International), Sally Harrison (co-founder of CURE International), and Janis Balda (a nonprofit attorney) will address questions of gender and justice during a panel discussion.

Other conference speakers will bring fresh perspectives to current topics like the Trinity, marriage, abuse, historical patriarchy, and Christian ministry. The conference will offer four plenary speeches from Lidija Novakovic, Roger Olson, Christopher A. Hall, and Jeanne Porter. Attendees will also choose from twenty-one workshops relating to Bible and theology, history, relationships, gender and culture, and justice.

St. John Chrysostom writes, “The test of the sincerity of one’s prayer is the willingness to labor on its behalf.” CBE’s conference is an opportunity to join together with those who are laboring on behalf of developing a biblical basis for gender justice to continue to raise awareness and advocacy.
