What would your church look like if every member had a vital
ministry?
Christians for Biblical Equality (CBE) helps churches to
empower the saints. From its inception, CBE has communicated
the biblical truth that men and women are equally responsible
to use their God-given gifts to further Christ's kingdom. Click
here to read about three churches that embraced gender
equality, and find out what they learned along the way. Crafting

How have various denominations embraced women in leadership?
CBE members belong to more than 80 denominations and live
in 37 countries, including the United States. Most evangelical
denominations ordain women, but some denominations have had
greater success actually drawing women into leadership
positions. Click here to learn more about some of the United
States’ largest denominations, their positions on women in
leadership and the percentage of their clergy that are female.
The Status of
Women in the Church
How does membership with Christians for Biblical
Equality encourage and equip churches to empower the saints?
The theological and historical debate over the
leadership and ordination of women is ongoing and is an important
matter. CBE educates and encourages members through quarterly
issues of Priscilla Papers and Mutuality, scholarly
and popular books, and through our Web site, international
conferences, and support of local CBE chapters. Each year, church
members receive a free book including a study guide that is
published in Mutuality. CBE also encourages churches to
provide resources to their congregations through special sales and
our large, every-day member discount.
Priscilla Papers
addresses biblical interpretation and its relationship to
gender, race/ethnicity, economic class and age issues in society,
the Christian community and the family. Click here to learn
whether there is a divinely ordained hierarchy in the life of the
church and home, based on gender alone. The
Cultural Context of Ephesians 5:18–6:9. (PDF)
Mutuality
features events and personal stories that provide
inspiration, encouragement and information about equality within
the Christian church in the United States and around the
world. Click here to learn five tips for creating an equal
partnership at home. Plus, discover how to divide chores without
multiplying frustration. Parenting
as Partners. (PDF)
Church membership was
designed to encourage churches who support CBE's ministry to
help CBE provide resources to their church members. Group
benefits include a large discount (20%) on CBE books, articles
and tapes, a free book for the church library each year and
great discounts on CBE conference registrations. This is in
addition to standard benefits available to all CBE members

Three Pastors Share How Their Churches Embraced Gender Equality, and What They Learned Along the Way
By Lola Scobey
Whether it’s a church with about 85 members, one with 850 members, or
one with around 8,000 members, three gift-based churches, as described by
their pastors, practice a model of church life that is not typical,
regardless of size. These three pastors — Austin Stouffer, Jo Ann Kunz and
John Ortberg — have steadily guided their members to use their spiritual
gifts in an environment of gender equality. And each states that their
gift-based church acquired its egalitarian stance from one fundamental:
studying the Scriptures with other Christians. See

CBE's Egalitarian Church Directory depends on
recommendations for the names of churches that support
biblical equality, women in ministry, gift based ministry,
etc. Churches do not need to be member churches to be listed
on CBE's Web directory but need only to agree with » CBE's
Statement of Faith.
