CBE Scholarship Has Deep Roots

When was the first
significant book on biblical equality published? Who was the author? Not many
people know that the first scholarly treatise dealing with Scripture and gender
was written in 1926. The author was a brilliant physician whose grasp of Greek
and Hebrew was profound. This doctor was also a missionary who devoted many
years to improving the plight of women. Who are we talking about?
Her name is Dr.
Katharine Bushnell and her book God’s Word to Women is a profound study
of the original biblical texts and their perspective on gender. Bushnell’s
work exposes both faulty scholarship and the core scriptural message of
mutuality between men and women. Any who have read her book understand the
influence she has had on biblical scholarship. Sadly, though, this amazing book
is slipping out of print and we need your help.
For the last 20
years, two CBE members have published God’s Word to Women. At
their own expense, Bernice and Cosette have printed thousands of copies so that
Bushnell’s critical work may continue to serve the church. But they need your
assistance. In a rare challenge, we have been given $2,000 in matching funds.
Every dollar you donate will be matched, and the proceeds will go towards
printing God’s Word to Women. Each book CBE sells will become profit
for CBE’s life-changing ministry.
