God Uses CBE to Comfort His People

"Sing for joy, O heavens! Rejoice, O earth! Burst into song, O mountains! For the Lord has comforted his people and will have compassion on them in their sorrow." Isaiah 49:13 (NLT)

There is nothing like being used by God to comfort his people. Recently CBE had the privilege of experiencing this when Barbara Evans, a CBE member, shared her story.

I have often referred to CBE as my link to sanity. CBE's excellent resources provided much-needed affirmation when I felt I had no local support. Aside from my liberated husband and long-distance friends, I was alone in my conviction. After years of this isolation, I was really hurting.

In Christian circles we hear the phrase "I'll pray for you" so often that it tends to float past our cognizance. Yet deep, soul-felt loneliness drove me to take CBE staffers up on an e-mail offer to pray for me. I had never done something like this before, but I was dreadfully weary of feeling so alone as an intelligent, gifted Christian woman and nurse practitioner.

Within three days of e-mailing CBE and saying, "Yes, I'll take you up on your offer to pray. I need smart Christian women friends that haven't bought into the false belief of their inferiority," God led me to not one kindred spirit, but two! And that is truly amazing in small-town New England.

Now, 15 months later, my heart is full of gratitude for my new friends here, as well as the faithfulness of sisters at CBE who obviously kept their promise to pray.

Barbara's story serves as a confirmation that God is working through CBE. Her story also challenges us to keep persisting in our efforts to "Comfort, oh comfort my people" (Isaiah 40:1). CBE is up to the challenge! But we need the tangible support of our faith partners. Will you make a generous gift today to help us reach others like Barbara?
