JOIN US IN TORONTO!

By Christine Stockton

“[I learned from the conference] that the study of biblical equality and egalitarian ideas is a powerful catalyst in bringing about social reform, first in our hearts and churches, and then as it spills over into activism in global situations like sex slave trades, female genital mutilation, gender abuse and violence, and gender infanticide. It seems change starts with the intellect—in the realm of ideas—and from there becomes reality as a proper understanding of God's justice and truth is internalized and believers are mobilized.”

So said a CBE member after attending our conference last August. This year we continue our hopes of expanding biblical equality by hosting our next conference, “Sent to Preach the Gospel: Men and Women Using Their Gifts for the Great Commission,” to be held this July 18-20 in Toronto, Ontario. We will be exploring the role of biblically-based equality in missions, exemplified by Romans 10:14-15: “How then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

Keynote speakers will be Esme Bowers (leader of the Pan African Christian Women’s Alliance), Ruth Tucker (professor and author), Bonnie Wurzbacher (Coca-Cola executive), and William J. Webb (professor and author).

CBE's conferences are a great opportunity to share the vision of biblical equality with old and new audiences.

In recognition of the diverse interests of CBE members, a variety of workshops will be presented focusing on both academic, theoretical issues and more popular, practical issues. Academic workshops will delve into examples of gift-based leadership in our evangelical heritage, Paul’s views of his female co-workers, and how justice, evangelism, and biblical equality work together. Popular workshops will explore egalitarian marriage, gender and missions, and an introduction to biblical equality. Workshop presenters include CBE president Mimi Haddad, Ron and Arbutus Sider, John Kohlenberger, Lorry Lutz, Ruth Tucker, and David Hamilton.

At the authors’ autograph party, conference goers will have an opportunity to mingle with CBE authors who are attending or speaking at the conference. CBE’s online bookstore (www.equalitydepot.com) will offer special conference discounts on many best-selling books, recordings, and other resources. Attendees may bring books from home or buy them at the conference to get them signed at the autograph party.

In past years, CBE’s conferences have been a great opportunity to share the vision of biblical equality with old and new audiences, discuss egalitarian and justice issues, learn about historical and contemporary gender issues, and have fellowship with other egalitarians. At each conference we are amazed by what God is doing in the lives of our members as they work towards gift-based leadership. We hope to see all our friends and members in Toronto this summer!
