Exciting New Additions to our
Colorado
Conference Line-Up!
By Christine Stockton
Since we first printed
the brochure for the conference, we have had many exciting
additions to our upcoming conference in Denver. First, we have
added three new workshops:
-
David Scholer, professor of New
Testament and Associate Dean of the Center for Advanced
Theological Studies at Fuller Theological Seminary, will
give a workshop on 1 Corinthians 11:2-6.
-
John Kohlenberger,
author or co-editor of more than four dozen biblical
reference books and study Bibles,
will give a workshop titled, "Bible
Translation and Justice: Maintaining Accuracy While
Clarifying Gender and Eliminating Hurtful Stereotypes."
-
Sara Wilhelm, M.Div student at
Bethel Seminary and winner of this year’s student paper
competition at the meeting of the Evangelical Theological
Society, will present her award-winning paper on the
inheritance of Job’s daughters.
And second, a unique
opportunity for worship and healing: CBE will be partnering with
Mandy Nelson to create a room for prayer and reflections
on oppression. The room will feature photography and article
displays, demonstrating ways in which people have struggled and
still do struggle under oppression. It will then guide us
through ways we can be agents of prayer, encouragement, and
healing.
And as planned, our
other conference speakers and leaders like Lidija Novakovic,
Roger Olson, Christopher A. Hall, and Jeanne Porter, will bring
fresh perspectives to current topics like the Trinity, marriage,
abuse, historical patriarchy, gender justice, culture, and
Christian ministry.
The conference will also feature a silent
auction, panel discussion of evangelical leaders Ron Sider
(Evangelicals for Social Action), Sally Harrison (CURE
International), Jo Anne Lyon (World Hope International), and
Janis Balda (non-profit attorney), and an opportunity for
attendees to meet CBE authors and speakers at the Authors’
Autograph Party.
It is at our annual conference where CBE
friends and members gather to share stories and wisdom about
their experiences. This year’s conference, “Seeking Justice and
Loving Mercy: Gender and Justice in the
Bible and
Our Culture,”
will be
held in
Denver, Colorado
on August
10-12.

It’s not too late to join us in fellowship and
scholarship with like-minded Christians!
