Seeking Justice and Loving Mercy: CBE’s Upcoming Colorado Conference

By Christine Stockton

Seeking Justice and Loving Mercy: CBE’s Upcoming Colorado Conference By Christine Stockton Christians for Biblical Equality is excited to announce its’ 10th international conference this August in Denver, Colorado. This year’s theme is “Seeking Justice and Loving Mercy,” a theme exemplified by Psalm 37:6: “He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.” CBE hopes to draw people from around the world to advance this purpose and to shine light on the cause of gift-based leadership and biblical equality.

Over the course of the three day conference we will hear from church leaders and prominent theologians as they speak about pressing topics such as the Trinity, marriage, abuse, historical patriarchy, egalitarian ministry, and more. Join us to hear speeches from Lidija Novakovic: “There is No Longer Male and Female: Gender Equality as a Question of Justice”, Roger Olson: “Beyond Equality to Interdependence: Women and Men in Community”, Christopher A. Hall: “The World of the Early Church: Insights and Misconceptions”, and Jeanne Porter: “New Wineskins for New Wine: the Work of Gender Justice in the 21st Century”. Conference attendees have the opportunity to choose five workshops sessions from the list of 21 options in the categories of History, Bible and Theology, Marriage and Relationships, Gender and Culture, and Justice. This year CBE developed a ministry and academic track to help draw attention to workshops that will especially useful to those in ministry and especially interesting for those in academia. We hope that these tracks will act as a precursor to more tracks at our conferences for other groups like teens, internationals, families, and youth workers.

CBE’s Colorado conference will also host a discussion from a panel of evangelical leaders involved in justice ministries. Ron Sider (president, Evangelicals for Social Action), Joanne Lyon (president, World Hope International), Scott and Sally Harrison (presidents, CURE International), and Janis Balda (lawyer, consultant, advocate) will discuss issues of gender and justice in the Bible and in our culture.

Along with insightful workshops, conference attendees will have the opportunity to meet other like-minded Christians and to greet CBE authors and purchase CBE resources at special conference discounts. Musical worship will be a part of each plenary session. We will also be joined by two prophetic artists who will create artwork inspired by the vision and teaching of the conference.

Come be refreshed and inspired! Join us to discuss egalitarian and justice issues, learn about historical and contemporary gender issues, get rejuvenated for your ministry, gain inspiration for how your church can advocate for justice and have fellowship with other egalitarians. At each conference we are amazed by what God is doing in the lives of our members as they work towards gift-based ministry. We hope that you will join us this year as we attempt to seek justice and love mercy.
