WHAT WAS SO AMAZING ABOUT CBE'S CONFERENCE IN COLORADO?

By Mimi Haddad

What is it about our recent conference, "Seeking Justice and Loving Mercy," that proved so powerful? Was it the 14,000 foot mountain peaks that greeted us each morning? Was it our members and friends living in the area, who opened their hearts and their homes to our community? Was it the CBE staff, speakers, musicians, and artists whose skills and passion were quickened by God’s Spirit? Was it the force of scriptural truth meeting many needs? Was it the cloud of witnesses, from around the world, giving testimony to the truth of biblical equality? Yes, it was all of this and much more!

250 Christians convened in Denver, from many continents to search the Scriptures in addressing gender-related issues. We heard from therapists, bible translators and scholars, pastors, missionaries, and academics—all speaking from years of training and experience, and each affirming that the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, teaches that it is God who equips us for ministry, and that it is God who opens opportunities for service! It was true for Deborah, Miriam, Huldah, Priscilla, and Junia, and it is true for us today.

What was also prominent at CBE’s 10th international conference was the biblical, historical, and pastoral territory covered as speakers asked how we might live out our call to love justice and to seek mercy. As tears poured down their faces, CBE honored more than 10 individuals whose love for Christ gave them the courage, power, and vision to serve on prominent boards, build hospitals, rescue individuals from sex slavery, and to challenge unbiblical and oppressive systems in denominations, churches, and cultures. Many attendees indicated that the awards ceremony was the highlight of our 10th international conference in Denver!

We invite you to participate in our next international conference July 18-20, 2008 in Toronto, Canada. Hope to see you there!

In Jesus,

Mimi Haddad
President
