A Life Worthy of Calling: Urbana 06

Imagine: strobe lights, loud music, 25,000 enthused young adults, vibrant speakers, and… global missions and the church? Welcome to Urbana 06, a triennial conference scheduled this year for St. Louis, MO. From December 27th to the 31st, thousands of students, missionaries, church leaders, and campus leaders will congregate in the Edward Jones Dome and America’s Center for five days of intense seminars, workshops, prayer, worship, and Bible study to focus on the call to global missions and church ministry.

This year’s theme is: “As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.” (Ephesians 4:1) It matters what you do with your life! Attendees of the Urbana conference will be challenged to consider what a “life worthy of the calling” actually means. This conference has been held since 1946 with the express purpose of encouraging and equipping students to change the world. It emphasizes racial and cultural reconciliation and challenges attendees to develop a multicultural worldview that embraces the global church and motivates them to serve in global and cross-cultural missions.

CBE has the privilege and great opportunity of leading two separate titles—(possibly three times each)—this year at Urbana titled Gender and the Church: Do Spiritual Gifts Come in Pink and Blue? and Gender and Mission: Women and Men in Partnership. The workshops will be led by CBE president Dr. Mimi Haddad and have the potential of reaching as many as 3,000 people. CBE may also have a booth at Urbana 06, which may enable us to hold yet another workshop.

The chance to impact so many people at this conference is a tremendous ministry opportunity for CBE! Yet, we need $4,000 to cover the cost of registration, airfare, and lodging for two at Urbana and also to fund the booth we hope to have there.

We know that an opportunity of this magnitude is exciting for all who are passionate about biblical equality. This event occurs only once every three years and we are so thankful for the invitation to participate in vibrant ways at Urbana 06

Can you help us by giving a generous gift?

Please join us in prayer that we will reach many people and encourage men and women to use their unique spiritual gifts to serve the Lord throughout the world.

Please also make a generous contribution so we can empower these men and women to “live a life worthy of the calling” they have received!
