LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
CBE Joins Lausanne in Taking the Whole Gospel to the Whole World

By Mimi Haddad

"The Whole Church Taking the Whole Gospel to the Whole World."

This is the Mission Statement of Lausanne, and CBE is so excited to be a part of it!

In 1974, the Lausanne movement was launched as 2,300 evangelical leaders from 150 countries signed a covenant to be more intentional about world evangelization. Now, 30 years later, evangelical leaders from all over the world will meet again to address 31 issues considered "roadblocks" to world evangelization.

Lausanne has recognized gender inequity as one of the significant challenges facing the church. Not only have they acknowledged it, but they've also sought CBE's input and leadership. Seven months ago, they asked me to serve as a convener of the gender issues group, and since then I've been working with global leaders, preparing an action plan we will present in Thailand at the Lausanne III Conference. Our action plan is based on extensive dialogue among gender forum participants.

I think you will appreciate the many ways gender forum participants speak boldly on behalf of their biblical convictions and ministry experiences. Missionaries have vital opportunities to observe the biblical truth that, as Oluwakemi from Nigeria suggests, "the gifts of God are not gender bound." Uma, writing from India, also addresses Gospel barriers:

The greatest barriers to the advancement of the Gospel are often found inside the church! These can be barriers in our relationship with God and with each other, including gender barriers. Satan uses them to make the church weak and a poor witness for the Lord.

God's Spirit is indeed at work in our gender forum! We need your prayers more than ever, as gender forum leaders labor for an entire week in Thailand, compiling our vision for men and women serving together. Then, throughout 2005 and 2006, Lausanne will encourage mission organizations and churches around the world to make our vision a priority.

You are a treasured partner of equality in Christ. Can we enlist your efforts alongside us? CBE's presence at Lausanne will cost approximately $3,000. Will you be part of this historic event through your prayers and through a generous gift today?

In Christ's eternal devotion,

Mimi Haddad
President
