I believe in male headship!

By Gilbert Bilezikian

Foremost egalitarian admits he agrees with male headship. Consider the following:

I believe in male headship unabashedly and unreservedly. I cannot evade the issue or rationalize my way around it. The headship of husbands is clearly and unassailably taught in the New Testament. Moreover, the Bible clearly declares that the response of wives to their husbands' headship is submission in everything. Indeed, the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church. As the church is subject to Christ, so wives must be subject in everything to their husbands (Eph. 5:23-24). This precept is not given in Scripture as a recommendation, a suggestion or a piece of advice that may be optionally followed. It is an absolute mandate that requires the same level of adherence as any of its commandments.

Book Service News

CBE’s new 2003 calendars and note cards have been a huge hit! They feature stunning ancient art depicting women in ordained ministry. Gathered from church mosaics and catacombs, the images show women being ordained, celebrating the Eucharist, or having titles like “bishop.” The calendars and note cards are quality constructed, but also reasonably priced! Visit www.cbeinternational.org/bookstore for more details or to see some of the images.

Seven new books also have been added to CBE’s online bookstore! Here’s just a sampling:

  1. The Trinity and Subordinationism: The Doctrine of God and the Contemporary Gender Debate. This book questions whether or not the orthodox view of the Trinity teaches the eternal subordination of the Son of God, as well as whether or not women are created to be permanently subordinated to men.
  2. Daughters of Islam: Building Bridges with Muslim Women Gives the reader insight into how to relate to women of Muslim background, including how to introduce them to Christ.
  3. Who Is My Enemy? Welcoming People the Church Rejects An invitation to look at people outside the church with compassion, to understand that feminists, postmodernists, homosexuals, liberals and New Agers are not enemies to avoid.

You can see these titles and more at http://www.cbeinternational.org/bookstore.

Don’t forget to stop by CBE’s Web site on December 26 for our after-Christmas stock reduction sale! Several books will be available for only $5.00. It’s a great time to stock up on some CBE classics, as well as to have a few on hand to give to friends.

Quotable

Mary Visits Elizabeth Luke 1:39-56 – TNIV

At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed:

“Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear!  But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!”

Mary’s Song

And Mary said:

“My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me—holy is his name. His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation. He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts. He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty. He has helped his servant Israel, remembering to be merciful to Abraham and his descendants forever, just as he promised our ancestors.” Mary stayed with Elizabeth for about three months and then returned home.
