2017 "Mutual By Design" CBE International Conference
On July 21-23, 2017, Christians from around the world will gather in Orlando, Florida, for CBE's 2017 conference, “Mutual by Design: Building God’s Church Together.”
The conference will promote the biblical view of gender and Christian leadership—namely, that the Bible places no gender-based limits on Christian service.
The need for this egalitarian perspective is as great as ever. Around the world, women and girls suffer oppression because they are considered less valuable than men. This devaluation of women is often justified by patriarchal readings of the Bible. “Mutual by Design” will proclaim a better way.
Neither God nor the Bible calls for gender-based hierarchy in the church, family, or community. In fact, the gospel proclaims a new way of being—one in which all people are valued equally and free (and obligated) to serve the church and world according to their gifts. This is how the family of God is to function, and this is impossible under a system that permanently places men in authority over women.
“Mutual by Design” is based on 1 Corinthians 11:11-12: “However, woman is not separate from man, nor man separate from woman in the Lord. For as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God.”
